Boundary crossers include:
- Tama Kieves, a Harvard Law School grad and now an author, speaker, and coach who teaches individuals how to listen to their inner voice
- James Haensly, an American in Singapore who speaks fluent Japanese and bridges the gap between marketing and sales and engineering in a technology firm
- Atsuko Horiguchi, a World Bank executive and committed yogi.
These individuals have all crossed the boundaries of domains as part of their creative genius.
In the book, A WHOLE NEW MIND, Daniel Pink describes boundary crossers as individuals who “develop expertise in multiple spheres…and find joy in the rich variety of human experience. They live multi lives—because that’s more interesting, and ….more effective…. Boundary crossers reject either/or choices and seek multiple options and blended solutions. They lead a hyphenated life filled with hyphenated jobs and enlivened by hyphenated identities.”
Does this sound like you?
• Literate in multiple cultures
• Move between different groups, effortlessly and with the finesse of a diplomat
• See relationships between disparate things that most people never notice
• Is both analytical and intuitive
• Delight in working in a multi-disciplinary environment
• Defy traditional gender role stereotyping. (Great minds are androgynous!)
If so, you may be a boundary crosser.
Where Boundary Crossers Get Stuck
As a boundary crosser it’s not always easy. What you might experience as a boundary crosser:
• You travel among many worlds and belong to none.
• While others may see you as graceful in dealing with a variety of people and situations, internally, it doesn’t feel that way to you.
• Being open to a wide variety of experiences and having a number of angles with which to approach an issue, you can get distracted.
• You feel awkward when the markers of success for other people don’t do anything for you.
You are not alone.
The Boundary Crosser Advantage
In the Boundary Crosser Group Coaching program, you’ll meet other like-minded souls to learn how to:
- Embrace boundary crossing as an asset. Understand how you are uniquely positioned in groups/organizations to change the game in one or more worlds.
- Develop your personal brand on being a boundary crosser. Be more of yourself, naturally.
- Increase the richness of your experiences. It’s not about achieving more. It’s about experiencing more.
Groups are limited to 8 people to provide a rich experience. We meet over the phone to maximize your time and to draw participants from around the world. As part of a group, expect to expand your thinking and network, with accomplished professionals from a diverse range of disciplines.
